The Corsairs of Urso

A fierce brotherhood of pirates founded by the deposed King Pago of Alusia in Y-35. For over 30 years the corsairs alone held the secret of crossing the Great Sea. They could raid the coasts of the Old World and retreat to their lairs in the New World safe from pursuit. The western coast of the New World once held a dozen pirate towns and hundreds of hidden treasure caches. The largest and oldest pirate town was Dulane on the shores Arderoth.

In Y -13 King Pago was killed by his first mate, Jan Holk, fracturing the corsairs and starting a decade of infighting and paranoia. Finally in y-3 Holk and his galleon split from the corsairs, returned to Alusia and offered the secret of crossing the Great Sea to the highest bidder. Tolgor Nelson was the only man who could offer them amnesty in all of the Old World kingdoms so the secret was now his.

After Holk’s treachery the importance of the Corsairs waned. Their secret ports and hidden treasures claimed one by one by Tolgor Nelson or hapless colonists. The Corsairs of Urso existed for a time as a mercenary navy in the service of Capesburg or one of the lowland colonies. Now there are a few pirates who claim to be Corsairs of Urso. They fly the forbidden Fire and Chains banner but can never match the terrible glory of the long sunken fleets of King Pago.
